As one of the first Boys & Girls Clubs across the country to launch a technology program, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver continues to recognize how important STEM education is to today's youth.
"Technology is an important part of today's academic environment and we believe it is important to incorporate technology into our programming to make it accessible for our Club members," said Hollis Salway, director of corporate and foundation relations.
The organization, which helps support vulnerable young people and helps them succeed in school, build character and make healthy choices, is the recipient of a $34,500 grant from the Opus Foundation^®^ that will assist them in outfitting a new freestanding facility with the latest technology equipment.
"We're thrilled to receive the grant," said Salway. "The funding will help us expand our programming into a community that is constrained by resources," Salway said.
The new facility in Commerce City will allow the organization to serve 75% more children. The organization, which offers afterschool and summer programs in art, sports and technology, serves children ages six to 18 from primarily low-income families. The cutting-edge technology equipment to be included in the new facility will be able to handle the many tasks the children undertake, piquing their interests and supporting the technology-oriented activities currently conducted less efficiently in the Club.
With our goal of supporting the communities where we live and work and continuing our commitment to youth development, it feels good to have the Foundation partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.
"As the need for our programs continues to grow, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver also needs to develop thoughtful partnerships, like our partnership with Opus, to continue supporting thousands of kids in the Metro Denver area," Salway said.
When I became aware of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, I recognized what a great organization they are and matched them up with the Foundation for this grant. I'm proud to be part of an organization that makes supporting my community a priority.
The Opus Foundation is building community for a better tomorrow by supporting projects and programs that make our communities better places to live, work and raise families through grants to nonprofit organizations in the areas of early childhood education, youth development, workforce development, community revitalization and pressing/emerging needs.
