Reaching New Heights Downtown: The Nic on Fifth® Topping Out
After 11 months, The Nic on Fifth has topped out! This milestone marks 26 stories since construction began above the foundations in March 2013.
After 11 months and 15,648 cubic yards of concrete, The Nic on Fifth is topping out! Demolition began in December 2012, followed by the drilled foundations to bedrock in January and February. This milestone marks 26 stories since construction on the concrete superstructure began above the foundations in March 2013.
In celebration of reaching the top, the entire construction crew signed a screen wall beam that was hoisted to the top of the building.
Some interesting facts about our progress so far:
- The concrete pouring for the mat slab, a foundation used to distribute heavy column and wall loads across the entire building base, required 14 crewmembers and 100 truckloads of concrete in one day!
- Our typical concrete pours on each floor had a crew of 17 carpenters, 9 finishers, 6 laborers and 2 operators, with the crew completing one floor per week
The Nic on Fifth, the first luxury residential high-rise in downtown Minneapolis in nearly three decades, is slated for completion and will open in August 2014.
