Shanna Strowbridge

Vice President & General Counsel

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of our legal department, including leading a team of associates providing legal, risk management and environmental risk services
  • Provides legal guidance and advice to our business teams and Board
  • Oversees the work of outside law firms with respect to matters dealing with real estate development, construction, architecture, finance, property management, general corporate matters and litigation

Experience

Shanna has been a real estate and construction lawyer since 2000 and joined Team Opus in 2022. She has extensive experience as both private practice and in-house counsel. She previously led the legal team at Schafer Richardson and served as Associate General Counsel with CSM Corporation. She was also a shareholder at both Moss & Barnett and Monroe Moxness Berg and an Attorney with Winthrop & Weinstine.

Shanna uses her legal expertise to positively impact our projects for the benefit of our clients, partners and all stakeholders. For example, during construction on Kalaco Apartments in Denver, Colorado, work was severely impacted by extensive rain that caused moisture issues in the building. The building required extensive remediation. During remediation work, the construction team re-sequenced construction activities while Shanna made two significant insurance claims. She and her team were able to recover over 95% of damage expenses, an unheard-of amount. Using our collaborative approach with in-house expertise, the full team was able to get the project back on track as quickly as possible.

Of her accomplishments at Opus, Shanna is most excited about Optimize Team Opus, a curriculum to educate associates to the Opus way to develop a project and work collaboratively internally, as well as cooperatively and in alignment with the expectations of the many stakeholders on each project. Shanna believes that by empowering people with knowledge on legal matters and risk issues, people are able to organically begin to incorporate these items into their deal analysis and communications with others, which allows for the team to work together to proactively assess, consider and mitigate risk throughout all phases of our projects.

Shanna is a sports enthusiast and enjoys spectating at all sports (expect maybe NASCAR). She also enjoys spending time at her cabin with family and friends. Growing up in Brainerd (or “the 218”) means that she loves all things outdoors and recreational. Additionally, she enjoys reading and listening to podcasts about many things.
