365 Nicollet Subcontractor Embraces Innovation in Window Installation
Interclad is embracing a robotic approach to window installation on the downtown Minneapolis building.
Our culture of innovation extends beyond our internal operations to our project partners. Working with organizations that take an innovative approach to their work benefits us as they contribute to the overall success of all of our projects. One recent example comes from 365 Nicollet subcontractor InterClad, a business of Egan Company in Champlin, Minn., who is embracing robotics for moving and installing windows in the 30-story, mixed-use development.
“Designers and architects are specifying larger and larger units and pre-glazed windows for today’s buildings,” said Tim Woolworth, Senior Vice President Egan Company/InterClad. “To provide a safer way to handle large and heavy units, we invested in four SmartLift 380 Midi robots.”
Created to expedite window fitting and installation, the SmartLift 380 Midi makes the work environment safer by doing the heavy lifting for operators. Using four suction cups, it can hoist and move up to nearly 900 pounds. The robot can easily transport glass panels over various surface types without shaking or jerking, and it can perform several movements—such as driving, lifting, reaching out and tilting the glass—simultaneously.
Working with project partners who embrace innovation is integral to our success.
