Indy’s School on Wheels Named 2nd Building Community Winner
We honored our founder and 63 years of giving back with a $63,000 award granted to Indianapolis’ School on Wheels.
After more than 28,000 votes were cast, we’re proud to name School on Wheels the second annual Building Community Award Winner and the recipient of the $63,000 grant. Based in Indianapolis, School on Wheels provides tutoring to children in grades K – 12 who are experiencing homelessness. School on Wheels takes education to the places it’s needed the most, supporting the children who need it the most.
For the past 15 years, School on Wheels has positively impacted the Indianapolis community through innovative academic programming that meets the unique needs of the community’s most vulnerable youth. School on Wheels provides one-on-one tutoring and educational advocacy for children and their families, helping break the cycle of homelessness through education. Each year, School on Wheels partners with 13 transitional and emergency shelter sites and select public schools to serve hundreds of homeless children. In total, School on Wheels has provided its tutoring services to 4,600 children.
In partnership with the Opus Foundation®, we launched this award last year to honor our founder’s legacy of giving back while commemorating our rich history that began 63 years ago. This award brings together impactful nonprofit organizations serving our markets, Opus associates and the greater public to build community.
Representing our offices, the eight Award finalists were chosen by our associates. The organizations exemplify our founder’s values and the spirit of this award. Recognizing the important contributions of all the organizations, each of the remaining seven finalists received a $1,000 grant.
Thank you to our eight impactful finalists and to everyone who voted and spread the word about this Award!
