Murnane Named to Most Admired CEO List
Tim Murnane, who has lead Opus since 2010, was named one of 10 local CEOs on the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal’s list.
We're excited to announce that Tim Murnane, president & CEO, has been named a Most Admired CEO by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal!
Tim has been at the helm of Opus since 2010, strategically rebuilding and reinvigorating the organization. When he accepted the offer to lead Opus, he was tasked with reviving a then 57-year-old company after a significant economic downturn. Just eight short years later, under his leadership, Opus has demonstrated a steady growth trajectory.
Tim is leading us with a different focus, approach, risk profile and culture, fostering growth and building a strong team of talented professionals who will lead the organization in years to come.
Driven to Deliver, Lead & Mentor
Driven to Deliver is our tagline and mission, and it also describes Tim. He's driven to deliver for clients, partners, associates and stakeholders. He is a market strategist, visionary developer, fierce competitor and collaborative leader, who consistently stretches, encourages, challenges, supports and recognizes the team, crediting them for the success of the organization.
Tim has over 39 years of CRE experience, 28 of which were with Opus. As a developer, Tim delivered over 20 million square feet of space, including landmark projects around the Twin Cities – Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, Woodbury Lakes in Woodbury, Best Buy Corporate Campus in Richfield and American Express Financial Advisors headquarters in Minneapolis. Under his executive leadership, we have continued to deliver skyline-defining projects, including The Nic on Fifth®, 365 Nicollet and Xcel Energy Headquarters, all in downtown Minneapolis, and many other industry-leading projects that support individuals, businesses, organizations and communities across the country.
Despite the indelible impact he's made through building projects, one of his proudest accomplishments is having coached and mentored developers and real estate professionals throughout his career, many who have gone on to experience great success.
“I’m extremely grateful for having had the opportunity to work very closely with Gerry Rauenhorst and Mark Rauenhorst earlier in my career, and with many other very talented people in the industry,” Tim said. “These interactions and the knowledge I gained in the early years of my career proved invaluable, so today I continue to pay that forward by sharing my time and expertise mentoring those who are just starting out or are looking to get into the commercial real estate industry.”
Serving the Community & Giving Back
Stewardship is one of our core values; one that Tim not only supports but leads by example.
Tim's personal philanthropy, and his support and encouragement of others', continues to strengthen our culture while also making a difference in communities across the country. This is evidenced through the many accolades Opus has received in the community – Minnesota Business Magazine Community Impact Awards Best in Class, Greater Twin Cities United Way Best in Show and Minnesota Keystone Honored Company.
In addition to leading the Opus Foundation board of directors, Tim is currently a Minnesota Business Partnership Board member, a St. Thomas Academy Board member, a University of St. Thomas Real Estate Program Advisory Board member and an Urban Land Institute Advisory Board member. He previously held leadership positions in NAIOP MN, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Twin Cities RISE! and the Minneapolis Downtown Council.

Under Tim's leadership, we now have eight offices across the country and a robust pipeline of office, industrial, apartment, student living and senior living projects. With our mission and values as a foundation, he mentors and consistently challenges our team to keep moving forward. Tim's work exemplifies his tenacity, drive and strategic ability to craft a vision that inspires action. He's guided all of Team Opus by showing us how to take smart risks despite uncertainty and create innovative solutions despite obstacles.
Congrats, Tim! Thank you for your excellent leadership!
