Minnesota Brownfields promotes the cleanup and reuse of contaminated land.
Nordeast Business Center has won the Economic Impact award and Alvera Apartments has won the Innovative Project award from the Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Awards.
Minnesota Brownfields' mission “is to promote, through education, research, and partnerships, the efficient cleanup and reuse of contaminated land as a means of generating economic growth, strengthening communities and enabling sustainable land use and development." Previously, Arbor Lakes Corporate Center received the Environmental Impact Award – Large Project and Oxbō was a finalist for the Economic Impact award.
Completed in July 2022, Nordeast Business Center is a 130,439-square-foot speculative industrial building on a rare infill site with proximity to downtown Minneapolis. The building features:
- 32-foot clear height
- 136 vehicle parking stalls
- 22 dock doors
- 2 drive-in doors
- 19 trailer parking stalls
The project team helped preserve the area's charm with pollinator-friendly, neonicotinoid-free plants and reincorporating public art displays.
Our multidisciplinary expertise includes an experienced environmental risk management team with established proprietary environmental remediation strategies employed on projects across our organization. They were instrumental in coordinating regulatory, environmental remediation and brownfield grant funding for the project.
In addition to our internal team, Minnesota Brownfields members on the project team included Stantec, Braun Intertec, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), the Department of Economic Development (DEED), Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County.
Our Client Direct Services group built Alvera, a 192-unit, 129,389-square-foot building in the iconic West 7th/Fort Road neighborhood in St. Paul, for The Ackerberg Group.
The seven-story building sits on a half-acre near the corner of Grand Avenue and West 7th Street with close proximity to United Hospital, Children's Minnesota Hospital, Xcel Energy Center and the West 7th entertainment district.
The first two levels of the building are above-grade, precast concrete and support five stories of prefabricated wood-framed modular apartment units.
Minnesota Brownfields members on the project team included Lathrop GPM, Braun Intertec, Bolander, DEED and MPCA.
Congrats to both project teams!
