MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Opus Group announced plans today to develop The Station on Washington, a new student residential and retail complex on the University of Minnesota’s East Bank campus.
Conveniently located near the Central Corridor’s East Bank Station, The Station on Washington will be a six-story building with 11,200 square feet of ground-level retail space and five floors of residential living space with 97 units and 156 bedrooms.
“The location for this project rivals the best locations on campus for students,” said Dave Menke, senior vice president and general manager at Opus Development Corporation. “The complex will offer students the convenience of campus-living as well as provide easy-access to the light rail corridor.”
Units will offer students a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom living options. Residents will have access to several desirable amenities, including private underground parking, a large fitness center, a separate study lounge space and on-site retail options. The building’s design will incorporate urban elements consistent with the light rail corridor.
The project is fully entitled and endorsed by the Minneapolis City Council. Opus closed on the land this week and will begin construction this month. Completion is slated for August 2013, allowing residents to move in prior to the start of the academic year. Opus Design Build, L.L.C. will serve as the contractor. Minneapolis-based Elness Swenson Graham Architects Inc., is the project architect. Opus AE Group, Inc. will manage the structural engineering and interior design.
This student housing project follows the recent completion of Stadium Village Flats, which is fully leased with residents and retailers – CVS/pharmacy, Noodles & Company and Dino’s Gyros.
