KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Opus Design Build, L.L.C., announced today that Kansas State University’s School of Leadership Studies building, designed and built by The Opus Group, received LEED Gold certification.
Completed in December 2009, the two-story 36,000 square-foot facility features a 210-seat lecture space, three mid-sized classrooms, three seminar-sized classrooms, an information café, faculty offices and meeting spaces. An outdoor amphitheater is designed for outdoor classes or impromptu gatherings and serves as the location for future building expansion.
The building uses water at a 45 percent reduced rate, compared with baseline buildings, and boasts a sophisticated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system that is 36 percent more efficient than standard code requirements. The facility encourages alternative transportation by providing bike racks and showers in the restrooms.

Inspired by craftsman design, Opus AE Group, Inc. worked in partnership with a committee to ensure the facility complements the architecture of the entire campus by using native Cottonwood limestone and other materials.
