Community stewardship is at the core of our organization and has been a pillar of our history from the beginning. Our commitment to stewardship recently became stronger with the company-wide launch of an associate-driven volunteer group.
Designed to engage associates who are committed to volunteerism, the Opus Volunteer Council (OVC) is an initiative of the Stewardship Committee. Last year, the Stewardship Committee conducted a survey that revealed a desire for additional volunteer opportunities for associates.
The Kansas City office’s OVC got right to work, hosting their first volunteer event with Cornerstones of Care (COC) in late February. COC, formerly an umbrella of five smaller organizations that have now merged, welcomed the team to their Spofford campus where they temporarily house displaced children in the foster care system. While in their care, the children have access to therapy programs designed to help them overcome trauma and thrive. The Kansas City team brought snacks and had a lot of fun playing board games and kickball with the small group of lively boys.
“It was a great opportunity to volunteer in our community,” said Megan Hunsberger, associate project manager for Opus Design Build, L.L.C. “I’m excited to be part of the Opus Volunteer Council and to have more experiences giving back with my fellow associates.”
The Opus Volunteer Council will assist with identifying, organizing and promoting opportunities to volunteer in our communities and will connect associates to those opportunities. I am proud to co-lead the council.
