Putting Heart into Visitation School

| Blog Post

Opus construction crews at Visitation School are helping out in the classroom to make the construction process less confusing for the kids.

Visitation School in Mendota Heights, Minn. has very warmly welcomed the construction team working on the Heart Commons project. Members of the team have taken some time from their work days to interact with the students.

In early September Opus team members lent the high school science students a helping hand…and a lift. A member of the construction crew was raised 25 feet in a lift to drop the student’s egg-drop packages as part of an engineering challenge.

The next day team members used their break time to visit with the Junior Construction Managers from the Lower School (Grades K-5). Marco and Jason answered the students’ questions and explained what a typical work day was like on a construction site.

“The students were understandably curious as they watch the building come together out their classroom window,” said project manager Scott Shifflett. “It is important to reinforce that curiosity and interest in building something, as well as to let the students see that construction is a viable career path. These examples show how our field staff really helps Opus shine.”

“It is amazing how well-mannered and mature the students are for their age,” Siebenaler said. “They showed a great interest in the equipment we use and how the construction comes together.  The most frequent question I had was if they could go up in the boom lift with me!”

The Junior Construction Managers were very excited about the visit, and thanked the crew with construction paper hard hats. See a few of our favorites here.
