Spirit of Partnership: From Customer to Developer for Andersen

5/9/2023
When selecting building materials for our projects, we set the bar high. That's why for more than a decade, our architects have specified Andersen Windows and Doors for many of our multifamily projects.

That's just the surface level of the Opus/Andersen story.

Why Andersen?

“We love the product," said Tom Becker, President & CEO of Construction. “We choose Andersen windows and doors because they deliver outstanding quality and performance."

Our first project to feature Andersen products was Stadium Village Flats in 2011.

"It is a wood-framed multifamily building in Minnesota, where the weather demands high-performing windows," Tom said. “Multistory buildings with large openings also require quality windows that are structurally strong. Andersen achieves all these goals while being cost competitive."

Our recently completed 19Nineteen Mile High in Denver is truly a testament to Andersen's tagline, LOVE THE LIFE YOU SEE™. The 12-story building (pictured above during construction) delivers incredible views of downtown, the Front Range and Empower Field at Mile High – almost exclusively through Andersen 100 Series awning, casement and picture windows; and 100 Series and E-Series gliding patio doors. The 277-unit building has 332 Andersen windows and 232 Andersen gliding patio doors.

We have a long list of multifamily projects with Andersen products. A small sampling includes Oxbō (St. Paul, MN), Melody on Main (Mesa, AZ), Kalaco Apartments (Denver, CO), Cadence Broomfield (Broomfield, CO), The Station on Washington (Minneapolis, MN), Corsa Apartments (St. Louis Park, MN) and Orchards of Minnetonka (Minnetonka, MN) – and the list goes on.

There are many reasons our design-build experts trust Andersen's quality and performance. Andersen's products are:

  • two times stronger than vinyl
  • environmentally smart, constructed using 40% reclaimed wood
  • feature a mechanically bonded cap stock exterior finish for longevity

As Andersen states, “We test, retest and test again, so your windows and doors work every day, day after day. Homeowners, contractors, builders and architects agree Andersen products rate number one in quality." That accolade is the result of a recent series of brand surveys; surveys which also identified that Andersen's products increase the value of a home, and the Andersen brand is number one in trust and America's most loved brand of windows and doors.

Cultures and Brands Align

Both Opus and Andersen are client-centric organizations and share a commitment to innovation, quality and delivering products as promised.

In 2018, the relationship came full circle and Andersen became one of our clients.

Andersen enlisted us to design and construct the first build-to-suit manufacturing facility in their 100+ year history – a 540,340-square-foot building in Goodyear, Ariz. Then, based on that experience, they chose us to design and construct another building – a 340,000-square-foot Value Add Center in Cottage Grove, Minn.

The Goodyear facility supports the entire operation for Andersen's new 100 Series line of products. The Cottage Grove facility provides storage and vertical integration of components for Renewal by Andersen. Both projects incorporated a number of Andersen products, including 100 Series, E-Series and Renewal by Andersen windows and doors.

Spirit of Partnership

Product predictability, pricing and performance are a priority for both of us. Plus, we share many of the same organizational values.

“Andersen has a great team, and they are outstanding partners, both on the client and customer side," said Becker. “It's clear that their culture and ours are very well aligned. This goes all the way from the executive level to the day-to-day managers. They want to do the right thing and deliver an exceptional experience and value for their customers, as does Opus. We have a lot in common."

Jay Lund, Chairman of Andersen, has similar sentiments, “Opus is a very customer-facing organization. They spent a lot of time listening. They were flexible and always focused on the higher objective of meeting our needs. There was a spirit of partnership from the very beginning and all the way through the process, at every level between organizations. They're just exceptional partners."

Our collaboration goes beyond products and buildings and extends to yet another shared value: stewardship. This fall, Tom and Jay co-hosted the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity CEO Build, an annual event that brings CEOs from local businesses together to build homes.

The spirit of partnership between Opus and Andersen is a great story – and we are excited about the chapters to come!
