Opus Time Lapse: Scholar Birmingham Completion

To meet evolving demand for student housing in a growing community, we developed Ascend – Five Points South, a luxury student living building near the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The 17-story, mixed-use community with prime retail space on the ground level sits in the Five Points South area, the city's premier entertainment and culinary district. The building is a short walk to campus, as well as a wide variety of retail, dining and entertainment options. The tower has 198 units with 520 beds. The units range from junior studios to four bedrooms and feature full-size stainless steel appliances and quartz countertops in the kitchens, simulated wood flooring in the common spaces and in-unit washers and dryers.

The building's shared amenities include luxurious spaces, secure parking, a fitness center, spa, individual and group study rooms, lounges and an outdoor amenity deck with fitness areas, fire pits and group seating. On the 17th floor, residents and their guests can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and the surrounding area. This amenity space features a coffee bar and clubroom with pool tables, ping pong tables and large screen televisions, as well as an outdoor amenity space with a rooftop pool, grilling stations and seating.

The building was completed prior to the fall 2020 semester.
