Design-Build Approach Fast Tracks Headquarters Build
With company growth in mind,
Freightquote – the nation’s largest online shipping broker – began searching for a design-build firm that could meet their non-negotiable move-in deadline for a 208,000-square-foot office building located in Kansas City, Mo., to serve as a new headquarters and main call center for the company.
Although others in the commercial real estate industry claimed meeting the deadline was not possible, Opus Design Build, L.L.C. committed to the timeline and budget. Working closely with Freightquote, Opus’ deep experience with office projects and unique construction approach enabled the team to develop a new state-of-the-art office space that would meet the company’s growing business needs – and the vision of Freightquote’s president, Tim Barton.

Opus was able to commit to our rigid deadline when no one else could. Their integrated approach allowed them to fast-track the project so we could move into our new 200,000-square-foot headquarters in nine months.

Unique Design-Build Approach Delivers on Time
Despite uncharacteristically severe winter and spring weather, including two blizzards and 17 days of rain delay, Opus’ integrated approach allowed them to fast track the process and move forward on construction of the main structure while the interior design was still being finalized, resulting in project completion in just 290 days.
By sequencing the construction, the project team was able to work on the interior throughout the uncharacteristically severe winter and wet spring, maintaining the project’s forward momentum.
Today, the office space accommodates the company’s current workforce of 1,100 employees and includes space for its growing operations with capacity for 1,800 employees on the 30-acre site.
Conveniently located on Carondelet Drive just east of State Line Road with easy access to Interstate 435, the four-story headquarters is steel frame and features the architectural design elements of precast concrete with glass curtain wall. The office also features a fourth level terrace.
Opus Design Build partnered with VanTrust Real Estate LLC., the developer of this property.
